The Sander and Matits Burn Foundation sends young burn survivors to summer camp and survivors and their families to the Phoenix Burn Congress so they can receive the knowledge and emotional support needed for burn recovery.

We are two gentlemen that were burned as children and would like to make a difference in young burn survivors' lives by showing them there is a life after being burned. Nothing heals burn survivors like other burn survivors. Our message is simple; we would like to aid survivors in getting back to normal lives after a burn injury. We can help, with your assistance, to make the burn recovery easier.

Our nonprofit foundation creates scholarships so burn survivors can attend summer camp with children just like them and we send children and their families to the Phoenix World Burn Congress each year.

The Phoenix World Burn Congress is an annual, international conference that brings together 900 burn survivors, their families, caregivers, burn care professionals, and firefighters. The purpose is to offer support, increase their knowledge of burn recovery, and share inspiring stories. For many burn survivors, it is their first opportunity to connect with others on the journey of burn recovery. Joe and Drew will be taking a family to the World Burn Congress in Anaheim, California. Thank you for making it a memorable event for them.

Anaheim 2019

Meet Austin, 12 years old, who will attend the Word Burn Conference in Anaheim, CA in October 2019 with his parents, Greg and Kelli. Austin’s burn injury occurred in November 2018 from a campfire.

Thank you for supporting Austin in an experience he’ll never forget.

All of the individuals involved in the foundation work as volunteers so your donation can be used for improving the lives of children burn survivors and their families.

C&S Wholesale Grocers awarded Drew Sander the company’s 2019 Volunteer of the Year award. Drew, who was badly burned as a child, created the Sander and Mattis Burn Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps young survivors lead normal lives after a burn injury. Drew volunteers his time in schools to educate teachers and students on what to expect when a classmate has been burned. He is certified by Phoenix SOAR (Survivors Offering Assistance in Recovery), an 80-hour training that includes time in a hospital burn unit. He also raises funds so that burn victims can go to specialized summer camps in N.Y., P.A. and W.A. at no charge. Drew’s efforts have made it possible for several families to attend the annual Phoenix World Burn Congress where 900 burn survivors, their caregivers, burn professionals and firefighters gather to increase their knowledge and support of burn recovery. Drew has been an employee of C&S’s Finance team for five years. When receiving this honor, Drew stated, “It’s important to me to make a difference for young burn survivors by showing them there is life after being burned. Sharing my time and experience to guide them and their families through that journey is my calling.” “Drew Sander’s commitment to help others is inspirational to us all,” said Rick Cohen, Executive Chairman of the Board of C&S. “Drew made a memorable impression on me when I first met him years ago,” he said, “and I’m even more impressed today with the impact he has on the community through his volunteer work which is extraordinary.”

From Joe Matits: As we concluded this year''s (2016) World Burn Conference (WBC) in Providence, Rhode Island I just wanted to say thank you to all of those who donated to our Foundation. With your support we were able to send Munia and her mother Khitam to the conference with registration and hotel expenses all funded by the foundation. I'm not one to carry on, but will say this hits home for me. I'm glad I was able to see first hand the positive impact the WBC had on both Munia and her mother. We have welcomed them both into our big family of survivors. The week was simply amazing and so nice to see all of my survivor friends again.
